Hi, I’m Emma.

In whatever I do, I love communicating visually. Figuring out how to manipulate text, shape, and photography to tell compelling stories drives me in my work every day.

I’ve spent my career working as an in-house designer and love the opportunity to build long-term relationships that come with that. I’m currently working as a senior multimedia designer at Michigan Creative at the University of Michigan. Working in such a large and diverse academic environment has been incredibly rewarding.

I’m a mixed media artist and photographer. I can’t help but bring my “design brain” to the table in those pursuits, but I love mixing in things that I can’t normally bring in to the office— paper ephemera, paint, and thread chief among them. I have a love for film photography but not necessarily the budget for it, so I enjoy experimenting with achieving film-like effects through digital photography.

I sell my personal art under the name “Atomic Roadrunner,” a nod to my appreciation for mid-century design and two roadrunners that I love— the bird and the Plymouth Roadrunner my dad owned during my childhood.

In 2015 I was diagnosed with ovarian cancer— I’m now in remission and my survivorship has taken me to some unexpected places (including the Wind River Range in Wyoming!). I enjoy sharing my story whenever I can if it can help my fellow survivors.
